WHAT THE FLY FUCK? No really WHAT THE FLYING FUCKERY is this shit?!!

Fasten your safety belts because this one gets a bit bumpy. A website & trailer has sprung up for a supposed new gaming developer called Javelin Reds Gaming. Apparently, set for release in spring of 2012 for the Xbox, PS3 and PC, Slavery the Game explores the seventeenth century as European merchants sailed the seas seeking their fortunes and as you can glean from the title: buy slaves. Let's stop there for a brief moment and think about this.

..... What if this so-called game developer wanted to put out a game about slavery and depicted it as an accurate and historical representation of what it was like. You could see arguments that would support such a game, even though it would be met with massive criticism and outrage!!

...But the trailer for Slavery the Game isn't interested in a historical simulation. It's clear they are going for publicity and shock value when they state you can, "Buy slaves, discipline them, exploit them" right before showing a list of weapons—whip, scourge, spiked club—to use in such actions.

We're convinced this isn't a real game and if this is a stunt to get people talking about a fledgling game developer, then perhaps someone should let the folks at Javelin Reds Gaming know that angering thousands of people is a piss poor way to start a business. Karma is a b*tch and it's coming for you.

When watch the news reports on Sky News and BBC news etc when it comes to youth crime they is not a lot of research done for example on BBC news reporter said that young people were calling down people from all "endz" which meant gangs. Mark Duggan and what led to the protest and then riot UPDATE

Many news outlets say that Mark Duggan, 29 was in a car being chased by the police, there are many holes in this story on whether or not Duggan had a gun or not. Police said they found a unregistered gun however police involved in the case are Trident officers. Channel 4 has also reported that the firearm had never been fired and could have belonged to a Police colleague as undercover Trident officers do not carry standard issue firearms. Eye witness reports differ from the police statements some say they heard fours shots fired instead of three many holes in the story.

The family was not given the answers that they wanted, no one is going to accept a dead family member without hearing everything first.They were disrespected, why did they had to protest for five hours demanding answers. But on top of that they had their protest disrupted and and will now have to wait get the answers that they want because of the riot.

One question that is on everyone's mind is how did Duggan's family protest turn into the firey riot? What was the domino effect. Some are saying rocks were thrown at the police by some people or that the police had tackled a friend of the family to the ground many of it is speculation. IPeople say and I agree that it was the beating of a teenage girl by the police.

A police officer blasted in the chest in a gunfight escaped with his life when the bullet struck his police radio.
He was following a known offender from London’s notorious Broadwater Farm Estate during a covert operation when the suspect opened fire.
Mark Duggan, 29, shot the officer from Scotland Yard’s elite firearms squad CO19 in the side of his chest with a handgun.
But the bullet lodged in the police radio the undercover officer was carrying in a side pocket.
Armed officers shot the gunman dead seconds later.
Residents said at least three shots were fired when officers swooped during the evening rush hour at about 6.15pm.
The Evening Standard quoted the dead man's girlfriend Simone Wilson, 29, as saying she was 'shocked' to learn her boyfriend of 13 years was carrying a gun.
A witness said the shooting took place near a bus stop and medics tried to save the man’s life as he lay in the street.
One witness said the victim was an ‘elder’ from the Broadwater Farm Estate, a short distance away.

This started a protest from friends and family members wanting to know answers about his death and took to the streets of Tottenham high road outside of Tottenham police station for a peaceful demonstration. As night fell the protest was hijacked and turned into a riot when two police cars were set ablaze by an unknown assailant, followed by a double decker bus. Rumours that the riot was flames were fanned by "tweets" as pictures were retweeted over 100 times.

As the riot and flames went on the looting began, which many could see coming. Banks, shops, restaurants etc. were looted.

Cornrows? Non-traditional? What Bullshit

One of my favourite photographs of myself is a small black and white passport-sized picture taken when I was four or five. In the photo, which was taken in Khartoum, Sudan, I am wearing a white T-shirt, a grin that suggests mischief and a head of small, neat cornrows. When I see it, I can't quite believe that I ever looked sweet and innocent, or that I sat still long enough for the plaits to be braided along my scalp.
This week, St Gregory's Catholic Science College in Harrow, London,went to court to defend its right to exclude a 12-year-old boy for wearing cornrows. Headmaster Andrew Prindiville claims that his ban on cornrows "plays a critical role in ensuring that the culture associated with gangs of boys in particular – eg haircuts, bandanas, jewellery, hats and hoodies – has no place in our school". In his statement to the court, he added: "What I am saying is that if we were to permit the wearing [of] any particular non-traditional haircut, such as cornrows, this would lead to huge pressure to unravel the strict policy that we have adopted, and which is a vital part of our success in keeping out of our school influences which have no place there – gang culture and pop culture."

Cornrows, "non-traditional"? A hairstyle depicted in Stone Agctures in the Sahara? This begs the question: non-traditional to whose eyes? I can't think of a single black friend, male or female, who hasn't worn them at some point. They are both a rite of passage and a source of pride. Only a fool who knows nothing about black cultural heritage would describe cornrows in such a way. In terms of hairstyles, they are about as traditional as you can get, and excluding a child for having them is insulting and offensive.

I heard about this story from my younger brother's friends who happens to know the boy. I have said before that Afro textured hair is seen and is made to be political. Excluding the boy having a hairstyle that is worn by all types of Black people and saying that it represent "gang culture" is ignorantly racist and plain damn foolish. They think by watching Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle or South Park that they get it and they can immitate it in their own way. NOPE

Yesterday I sat down to watch the Katie Price one off special on Sky Living about her and her son Harvey who is heavily disabled. katie talked about the incident that inspired the special, Frankie Boyle's comment.

"Jordan and Peter Andre are still fighting each other over custody of Harvey - eventually one of them will lose and have to keep him. I have a theory about the reason Jordan married a cage fighter - she needed a man strong enough to stop Harvey from fucking her."

I am 19 now. Ewwwwwww, this is my last year as a teen. Every year it seems like I am getting Peter Pan syndrome, you know when you don't want to grow up (and face responisblites). This is the reason why I hate kids who are in such a hurry to grow up. ENJOY YOUR CHILDHOOD IDIOTS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!!

Anyway Birthday was yesterday and I spent the day cleaning, but today my family took me out to dinner. I t was weird but fun becasue we haven't all been together to go out for a loooooong time it was really nice. Even my younger sister was there and she is never there which was awkward at first but then turned pleasant, I wonder how long that will last though.

Adulthood is really around the corner now as I have UNI interviews coming up and other scary grownup things to do. :(

I wish was at least 10, when my only problem was getting home in time to watch my favourite cartoons lol.

Elton John and his husband David Furnish appeared on the cover of US Weekly with their new baby. The cover was censored in Arkansas, USA by a "family shield".

Last year I was out with some friends and we happend to pass a gay couple holding hands. My friend said made a rude comment, that I had a problem with so I let him know. He then said how children were about.

I then broke it down for him, with all the gay TV hosts,(Alan Carr, Graham Norton, Gok Wan etc.) they have probably have already been exposed that same sex couples exists.
And how does he know that the his little sister is going to school with children who's parents are gay? That pretty much shut him up.

Prejudice is learnt. Children don't have a problem until an Adult and soceity tells them that something is wrong. Or tells them to be quiet when asking a question about something or someone who is different.

Another Example.

A few years back I was watching Sailor Moon (North American version coz they were to lazy to read the subtitiles) with my little brothers. One of them T, asked me if the creator meant for Sailor Uranus and Neptune if they were related by blood or marriage because they looked really "close". I told him of course not, in the Japanese version they are clearly lesbian, but becasue the North American english dub marketed the show towards young children (the original Japanese was for teenagers) so they made them cousins.

When I told my brother that they were actually lesbians as well as the two other characters were gay. They were confused. They were confused as to why they would change a person gender and make girls related instead of just letting them just be.

I really hope the third generation of skins is certainly the last. After watching the first episode I struggled to stay awake. (Well I was already tired) The characters don’t look all too interesting and I think Skins has officially lost its spark. I why understand everyone liked it, it was edgy and wasn’t afraid to “go there” it dealt with gritty things some teens go through and had a decent representation of gender, race/ethnicity, class and sexuality. I liked it and I also like how they kept Effy but the fourth series was just plain weird, things were not explained properly.

But seriously what can they write about now? Skins was really headline grabbing but now it has fizzled into a sweaty teenaged chaotic rump fest of a soap opera where someone’s sofa get’s covered in sick. I think after the sixth series and the film they can walk away happy they made a show enjoyed by many and even imitated terribly.

As the new year approaches I feel that I am really at a crossroads. I really do not know what the fuck I should do after I finish college. I don't know if I should go to Univerity and be £9000,0000,000 in the shit hole or whatever the price of a Uni education is nowadays. Or just go into the workforce and face being turned away becasue I do not have a University education. Or a short course in media or something?? Careers is not helping at all. I am really confused, and really scared. This is what happens when you try not to grow up, you grow up and you are seriously dissapointed.

I am so happy it's over I really did not care who won or who lost I am just happy that it is over (because I finally get to watch Waterloo Road). I am not really a football fan I enjoy playing than watching. I just find it amusing how the country puts things on hold like schools starting later and ending earlier (Wait that is a good thing.).

Well the fact that is was held in South Africa was cool and stuff showing a different side of a African country rather than famine and poverty. (It exists but so do other things.) But boy did the British TV love showing the side of Africa that we are so used to seeing(And I am aware there were some OK documentries going on but they were few). I mean they were documentaries everywhere about witch children, poverty, coruption and how ignorant and intollerant Black Africans are, I'm used to 5-7 docs throughtout the year but there were just too many that made me roll my eyes until they were sprained.

I am so sick and tired of all stupid little boys and girls thinking that they are all hardcore, big and bad gangsters. Do you know where you live the area that you live in is alright the houses there have gates in front of them. Now I am not an estate agent or anything like that but when the houses close to you have big gates in front of them and pillars you don't live in a rough ghetto.

To all the people who do this out there you have to understand when you say thing like "Come down to my ends and watch!" people are laughing at you. Because people wished the lived where you live but then having neighbours like you would be something else.

Just ranting here becasue it is absolutely laughable yet tiring to listen to all of it. The area I live it is so-so, there was some violence but that has kind of simmered down, I actually like the area I live lots of parks and bike trails around many different secrect pathways and shortcuts, big fields. There has been a few incidents of badness like people commiting suicide, the one time I heard a gun shot and random after school fights but honestly my biggest fear in my neighbourhood are the foxes that strut around during the night that are getting increasingly brave and the mysterious peacock/pheasent looking thing I saw but I digress.

Lastly if you want to test how "hood" the area that your are living in is, leave the front door open when you go out and when you come back all that's left bare floorboards and walls then okay your place is "hood" great for you have a nice time getting your stuff back. But if everything is still there then it's not so bad.

The three bear’s effect is a term that I coined myself (Or at least I hope I coined fomyself) is what happens when you have three individuals two of which are at polar opposite extreme and the third one is perfect because they are just in the middle they are “Just Right.”Let’s look at The 3 bears effect in a racial and gender aspect, by putting up three different race black white and East/South East Asians Racialized-masculinity helps keep white supremacist views working. Just Look at the stereotypes that exist for Black men and Yellow men they are at polar opposites.

Black men-Masculine, Hyper sexual, physically strong, mentally slow.
(Basically what you see in almost every rap video, every tvshow/movie or other etc.)

Asian Men- Asexual, effeminate, physically weak, (or strong but in a ancient martial arts way) mentally advanced.
(What you see in many movies and why an Asian male is harldy the lead male role.)

These are all stereotypes, whether you view them positive or not they are stereotypes which can be harmful whether they are seen as positive or not and they work in favour of white men. So then in comes White men having the best of both they are seen being strong as well as smart and having a healthy sexuality.

That is why all those penis stereotypes exist and why they get played out all the time in the media to boost the ego of white men so that they can be viewed as being perfect because they were just in the middle of both extremities completely normal. Or in Goldilocks words “Just Right.”

I am definitely a person who loves my personal space, I get too uncomfortable when somebody is really close friends and family are the exceptions of course. I mean it took me about a year to be comfortable enough to hug the new friends I made in high school and college but I have improved now it's only five months.

Because I like having space I do not like when people sit next to me on the bus or train when there are many other seats available for them to sit down. To deter people from sitting down next to me I would often "screw face" hoping that they think of me as the mean black girl and sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn't, I remember one incident the bus was pretty empty and I was sitting by my self a woman got on the bus and was about to sit in the empty seats in front of me but she looked up at me smiled then went to sit next to me even though I had my rude girl look going on, needless to say I was shocked.
Or even quite recently I was standing at the bus stop and a old Indian man stood too close for comfort for me so I moved then he came to stand next to me again I looked him in the face smiled politely then moved down the other end of the station and the man comes next to me again, and moves even closer! I was getting quite scared and told him to move away from me ,which he didn't I clenched my fist just in case the guy touched me. I swear I was close to having a Will Smith "Back up back up, mind your business" moment right there but the man then left after a while thank god my bus came in time for me to leave before he came back.

I was thinking why does this always happen to me even though I constantly screw face to people and it doesn't work my mum says it's because I have such a warm and inviting face and my sister agrees but I also wear glasses and have a whole geeky demeanour which is true I am geeky but this geek can hurt someone seriously when defending herself

"Get Over it"

"Get over it" is a phrase that more priviledge people use when less priviledgee people talk about their injustices. The phrase implies that less priviledge pepople are whining and complaining like little kids.

Example #1 Black person explaing how colourism and hair issue with black people began to a white person.
"Slavey has had a profound effect on the way black people see themselves."

"Black people really need to get over slavery and stop complaining the past is past."

This is stupid now let's move on and have a different scenario

Example #2 Rape victim talks to her friend about not being ready to date again
"Ever since my rape I find it hard to trust men."

"You really need to get over that and stop complaining the past is past."

You see what I mean stupid and stupid winner of the the first cycle of America's Next Top Model Adrienne Curry subscribes to that thinking.

Now there is a difference between moving on and forgetting about it and what the phrase impplies is that those people should foget all about what happend which is just silly

I have been wanting to do a post about this topic for a while but I have been having some trouble writing it so fell blogger Abagond wrote about the topic in great detail.

“Get over it” is something White Americans say when black people point out a case of white racism that is hard to deny, like that picture of watermelons growing in front of the White House. A lot of controversy has popped up with the appearance of Afro Latino baseball star Sammy Sosa, a lot of speculation is he bleaching his skin, does he have vitaligo like Michael Jackson did his appearance a side effect from years of steroid abuse?

Well there is a lot of racism, colourism and hair-ism in the Dominican republic a rejection for all things black. (Of course I don't apply this to all Afro-Dominicans who are very much proud to be Black.) So bleaching his skin and straightening his hair because the "good hair, bad hair." thing effects both men and women contrary to popular belief. But also look at his eyes he has blue contacts in.

What I have noticed from reading different post that discuss Sammy is that people are giving him a little bit more...hope? I guess they are hoping to believe that it's a side effect from the steroids or its an illness. While with Lil Kim and her appearance it's pretty much shout "it's self hatred!" so maybe a little bit of sexism.

I am going to be honest and voice my opinion I think both Lil Kim and Sammy Sosa are suffering from self hatred and have using skin bleaching cream and Lil Kim is suffering from Body Dismorphic Sydrome.
Most people reading will probably ask what about Micheal Jackson? I am a fan of all three stars by the way so I hope I do not appear to be bias. Michael suffered from body dismorphia that could have stemmed from self hatred but not from a racial stand point because he did take much pride in his black heritage and of course the pigmentation of his skin was due to vitiligo which was proven in his post mortem.

Now some could argue that just because they have purposely lightend their skin that it is not self hatred and point out to white people that tan their skin. You have to look at the history behind both.

The light skin, dark skin complex came from slavery just like the good hair, bad hair thing did too. The black slaves that were lighter and had a looser texture of hair were usually the off spring of the white slave master so they worked in the house and were sometimes given their freedom if they passed the brown paper bag and comb test then they were set.

The history of tanning happend when Coco Chanel came back from vacation and had a tan, she had time to out and enjoy the sun and not be in a room and look "pasty" a tan showed that you had leisure time which equated with wealth. Now do I belive that some people who tan do it because of self hatred yes I do belive that they do exisit.

A Single Story

Last week I was reading the blogs Stuff white people do and Abagond. The topic was on a Nigerian author called Chinua Achebe who speak about the danger of what is called a "single story".

I can relate to a lot of the things she talks about too many to write down but I write about one incident when I was in Year 4 making me nine years old, it was Black History month andwere asked to tell to ree-create a story we just heard about a girl in Nigeria and draw scenery and we were also put into groups. I drew a big house with many windows like a mansion, I have never been to Nigeria at that time but I had watched a lot of Yoruba movies (Nollywood films) with my mother and those types of houses were always shown and so were smaller homes and apartments and even huts.

A teacher that came in to tell us the story, a white irish woman who often bragged about travelling to differnt parts of Africa and Asia doing charity work. She looked at my drawing of the huge house with many windows and a front garden with a fountain and told me I was wrong she told the other members of my group to colour over the window and make it to look like a hut and more "authentic" I was so upset that I cried and left the groups and classroom. She was bascially calling me a liar saying that a house like that in Nigeria wouldn't exsist.

This is a common white tendacy to tell people of colour that they know more about their culture than the person of colour does, a case of showing her white priveldge because when she did this nobody questioned her my year four white teacher agreed and said it looked like a " a real african hut".

That incident has stuck with me for a long time at 9 years old I had already experice the subtle forms of racism that most people of colour living in the western eurocentric world face today,but it was the first time that white privilege/supermacy and racisim made me cry

Race Bias in Jobs "Ethnic Names"

I got this post from the the guardian adressing discrimination when it came to someone applying for a job. Those with "African and Asian sounding" names on their CV were more likely to be turned down for a job interview.

Researchers sent nearly 3,000 job applications under false identities in an
attempt to discover if employers were discriminating against jobseekers with
foreign names. Using names recognisably from three different communities – Nazia
Mahmood, Mariam Namagembe and Alison Taylor – false identities were created with
similar experience and qualifications. Every false applicant had British
education and work histories.

This does not surpirse me I remeber watching an episode of the Tyra Banks show that discussed how people make snap judgements and have preconcived notions when they see names like are not english.

Racism in Britain:Denial, Denial, Denial!

Part of the Channel 4 Race season the show How Racist are you saw ex teacher Jane Elliot the famous woman behind the "blue eyes, brown eyes racism experiment" did the same test on Britain.. She tried to get the blue eyed whites to acknowledge racism and white priviledge

The feeling of the show from the blue eyed whites were a lot of denial. People denined that there was any racism a lot of derailing of the arguement.

One white man said how everyone experiences discrimination and we should basically get over. He is an overweight man and said he gets discriminated so it's fair I guess, Janes Elliot then told him that he could change his weight and people of colour cannot change the colour of their skin . it. A lot of the blue eyed white people compared their 'hardships' to the hardships that people of colour face in the UK.

One other blue eyed white woman revelaed that she was shocked when one of the her black student had scrapped their cheeck and the skin was pink and assumend it would be black. (Everyone's tissue is pink stupid)

One white woman in the brown eyed group kept trying to stop the learning process. There was a lot of denile and I admit that I was screaming at my TV screen.

Jane Elliot made a very good ending statement about "the ways of white folks"

Media Spotlight on Black Hair....people need to stop

In my last post that of the subject of afro textured hair and its politics I had to put up another post. Regarding or this malarkey around Chris Rock’s new movie ‘Good Hair’ from what I’ve seen about the movie on the Tyra Show, Oprah Show and little previews and other different guests spot appearances I am quite agitated about the whole thing and Black Hair is in the media more than ever I'm not lying google it. Seriously on CNN monring news show, newspaper articles on the Obama girls and talk shows and other stuff

For those who aren't in the know Chris Rock decided to make this documentary because his daughter came up to him and ask why she doesn’t have “good hair” as you can see from the preview below.

Ooo.....okay..... After watching that you’ are probably laughing right now or kissing your teeth or maybe even both LOL. When I heard about Good Hair ~~Mockumentary~~docmentarty the first time I was hoping that the movie would somehow explain where the “good hair” and “bad hair” mentality came from which is obviously from slavery just as the light skin dark skin thing. I also hoped that the myths about afro textured hair would be abolished like it can’t grow as long as other races and wearing a weave does not mean you are bald head and how when you see a black women with kinky/curly for textured hair in its natural state and the next day her hair is straightened the next day she does not always have a weave it’s most likely shrinkage, kind of like a slinky, but that is not the case it seems as if he was just telling the full reason it was more like.

After reading the reviews it seemed that Chris Rock didn't address the roots (no pun intended) of the good hair bad hair mentality like in this movie called "My Nappy Roots"

Rock then made his talk show rounds on Oprah, Tyra, Wendy Williams and Monique (don't watch monique's show episode it was kind of silly) The View and then Oprah again, and in the clips I watched l of the show and he made slave reference to Oprah when showed a picture of when Oprah was a child and had her natural hair and it was styled in the typical way you would see a young black girl’s hair big braids/twists. “You were a slave here huh?” WTF?! Then there was a picture of Oprah and her Afro when she was doing the news and Chris Rock said “This is when you were doing the mean news” The there was a picture of Oprah where she had her hair straightened and he said "This is when you were free." yeeeaaahhhhh.

So she was a slave in the natural child hair pic and when she was older and had an afro is looked mean.....and he was so shocked when his child asked him the question and I’d like to make not that Oprah and Chris Rock child had basically the same hairstyle. He said men don’t care about hair yet he couldn't’t help himself touching Oprah’s hair and salivating over it saying "he has never done that to a black woman" and "that's all you?....Now that's rich."

Solange Knowles was also on the show with her big chop styled do, I always preferred Solange to her older sister and when she cut her hair to go natural I was like wow she has a really nice face not like me when I big chopped uh,uh LOL. She was there basically to explain she cut her hair to go natural and not had gone crazy or was out for attention duh, I knew that my black friends knew that but my non-black friend didn’t get it. Solange also talked about how she got her first relaxer and 4 I was shocked why do people think it’s okay to relax a child’s hair at those young ages wait until they get a double digit or at least can form their own opinion DAMN. That's what Chris Rock wanted to do abolish the kids getting perms and i agree and where the weave came from I already knew where it came from last year there was a documentary on BBC Three called "Whose Hair is it anyway?" where Jamelia travelled to Russia and India and in India they were harvesting hair and stuff.

Overall Oprah’s show was about what women would do and how much they would spend on hair instead of the “Good Hair” i.e. loosely coiled hair which was talked about more on Tyra’s show but putting Tyra’s and Oprah show together instead of having one or without the other made for an alright show. The Good hair bad hair thing is such a huge issue to talk about it can’t all be covered in a 60minute talk show or a 90 minute film.

One thing I didn’t like in all three talks is that there wasn’t much of a focus on natural hair I think all aspects of afro textured hair should have been covered. Rock said he didn’t add it to the movie because it wasn’t entertaining enough.

Entertaining? I’d like to know what he means by that does that mean there wasn’t anything he could make fun about or what? Did the women he interviewed have no personality at all? I wonder that maybe he may have derailed from his "original" premise. (The reason why that original is in quote marks is because of the director of "My nappy roots" is suing Chris Rock for copying her movie.)

All of this is just so confusing and it is one of the reasons I tire of talking about our hair in the emotional context I’d rather talk about it in the technical sense I’ll state facts and if someone wants to ask me a question like “Why do a lot of black women relax their hair?”

Tharps and Ayana D. Byrd or the movie "My Nappy Roots" This is exactly why I hate talking about the politics of afro-textured hair.

Since it is black history month in the UK I thought I would do this post I know that I haven’t posted in a while but I’ve been very busy. Anyway I wanted to talk about how people (usually white people) like to whisper the word black like its bad you know

“You know that man that works in the shop down the road he’s talk and friendly and: looks left then right: black.”

Black people are a big race with many different ethnic groups and have different nationalities. Just Google black people and click on the Wikipedia result.

Back to the whole whispering black thing people think that it is offensive to call a black person black so they settle for euphemisms such as in the UK I have heard white people refer to black people as Afro Caribbean

I remember one time when I was in high school in R.E. class and the teacher was discussing social issues and kept on saying Afro Caribbean, and then my friend blurted out “Miss just say Black, coz some of us here are not Afro-Caribbean.” Which is true, the girl who said that is from Sierra Lone and the black people in my class come from Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Dominica Republic, Nigeria, Ghana, and Angola. Not to mention that during that year’s black history month my friends and I did a survey to see where the black people in our year came from country wise. And we got Brazil, Cuba, Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia.

In America Every Black Person is African American (just in case you didn’t know am being sarcastic. Take our very own Naomi Campbell who is ethnically Jamican and was born and raised in London to put it simply she is Black British Caribbean. Her accent should be a dead giveaway.

When I was watching Tyra Banks THS and they were talking about Naomi and Tyra’s “feud” they said they were both pretty African Americans WTF?

Since when did Naomi become American, this isn’t the only time it has happened the same thing was said about Idris Elba, Seal and Thandie Newton (You would think the accent would be a dead giveaway that they aren’t American but no).

In America especially means that if you are Black you are Afro-American and everything Black is African American such as saying African American Hair, um you do know that a lot of us are not American the African Diaspora spreads further and beyond the U.S.A.

Stop Racializing it!

One thing that I see POC do that really annoys me is how we tend to racialize things about our own race and not in a joking way because if it were a joke I wouldn't be blogging it. Anyway I will hear my Asian friends say something about other Asians same with my black friends But since I am a black girl I will talk about my experiences

I met up with one of my friends and she was having male trouble again, she always ends up with guy trouble no matter what race she goes out with . So she was telling me how she is now through with boys for a while and will be dating herself for a while (remember we are only 17)her word were "I am through with boys...for now" then we laughed this was said around a group of friends so now one of my friends ends up telling another then another and word get around until one of my guy friends who we will call Darren comes up to us and says "How come you're not going out with black boys anymore?"

Where the hell did that come from my friend Shauna does not discriminate when it comes to good looking guys she is a shallow as they come but I love her all the same. Her last boyfriend just so happened to be Black. It didn't world out and she said she was through with boys not black boys or white boys or Asian boys just boys in general...for now. But as word got passed along it ended up as black boys like that game of Chinese whispers (Why do they call it Chinese whispers anyway?)

Why do we do that? Why when we have a problem with someone from our own race we end up generalising I mean don't we have enough people already do that for us?

I mean when a white man has a bad relationship with a white women he is off women for a while and yes we can argue of how white people see them selves as the default human being and therefore normal and how people of colour of internalized racism...

But it makes me wonder if Shauna's ex was white would it had been "Are you through with white boys?" or would that no even come into the equations?

I had a very interesting conversation with my friends the other day after watching a show about how these young teenage girls are all looking up to women like Jodie Marsh and Jordan as role models.

Then you have preteen looking up to the new generation of Teen Idols like Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Lynn Spears and Miley Cyrus. One taking pictures in the buff the other pregnant and the latter well that whole "slanted eyes thing" and dancing with a stripper pole in the MTV awards. Those girls are just a few to name but it seems to be an on-going trend that doesn't look to be quitting anytime soon.

My friend then hit me with a "Remember when singers used to sing?"

LOL yes I do remember growing up the three biggest teen idols that I looked up to we Aaliyah, Brandy and Monica. I mean sure they are still many decent teen idols out the Ashley Tishdale, Raven Symone, Keke Palmer but doesn't it seems that the focus and love seems to be put on these... to put it extremely bluntly hos. Then you have little girls looking up to this behaviour coming back home from work I saw some girls on the bus using the poles as stripper poles and they were dressed in next to nothing I mean I know its summer and everything but this is England and the weather can change with a flick of the wrist.

I have really had enough of the politics and rules of afro textured hair

Background
When I was younger I never heard of the whole good hair bad hair thing maybe it was coming from a Nigerian family and my mother taking care of my hair when I was much younger so I always had a head of thick long hair and the myths of black hair care never really got to me. My mother never relaxed my hair at a young age when I was 13 I asked her to and she left it on for not that long so i guess it was mostly tex-laxed. My mother had long hair and had a fast paced job and wore short wigs as a protective hair style and dyed her hair because she had a lot of grey hair a child which I have inherited. She also had a jheri curl too (she's a big MJ fan) and went back and forth between natural and texturized and cut it off to look younger and wouldn't have to waste time doing her long afro-textured hair. She dyed it many colours like dark black indigo, red, auburn, light brown and blond for a while. Hair combing for me was nothing like it was in my previous post. The reason I mention me being Nigerian may be a factor is because the whole having your hair straightened never meant you are denying being black it was considered a switch up or a change up but then again I can only speak for my family.

When I was in high school and became friend with a mixed girl who didn't have afro-textured hair and watching one of my other friend basically drooling over her hair that is when I discovered the whole "good hair thing" IN my circle of friend I can honestly say we have about half and half of girls who have chemically altered hair and natural hair.

What I have noticed over the last few year on the net I learnt about the whole "good hair", "bad hair thing" which was no different than the "light skin, dark skin" thing. There was sides takened and of course that whole Spike Lee movie just another way to divide black people thank you Willie Lynch is sick bastard!

You are allowed to dye your hair blond as long as you wear it natural and never straighten it coz if you do you're trying to be white meaning having blond afro, dreads braids etc. are cool.

You can see how this can get confusing depending on who you are talking to some people can be pro relaxers, pro natural or pro choice. I am a neutral natural I don't give two 2's what someone decides to do they can shave half of it of that seems to be the styles young girls are doing these days like Rhianna, Alani Vasquez, Cassie, Eve and who ever. There is other things that is more important than people worrying how someone wears their hair and judging the sister on the street that you don't know for not loving herself when she may just be wearing a protective style.

If we can get rid of one thing let's get rid of the "good hair, bad hair" thing and getting rid of the myths about afro-texture hair like it can't grow that long and you can't wash it more than once a week and combing while wet isn't bad and could make life tons easier. Oh and people need to stop calling it "African American hair" I mean what about Afro Latinos/Hispanics and Afro Carribeans oh and Africans that can get annoying.

On a final note if your workplace doesn't like your natural hair and asks you to change it sue them for discrimination and make sure to say "Next thing you want me to change is my skin colour"

A few weeks a go I was on my fav hair website long hair care forum as a lurker when read a post I talking about child/hair abuse with a link to a youtube video I forced my slef to watch a video of a young girl around the age of 5 getting her hair bruttally brushed by her mother i belive. The person filiming it was the little girl's sister the name of the video was entitled "Nappy Ass Hair" that came in three parts and was under the comedy category but a lot of people did not find it funny I was one of them I showed the video to my 10 year old brother and he shook his head calling the mother a fool for swearing at hewr child a brushing her hair in a bad way.

Looking at some of the stupid gender wars of black people on Youtube, what I've seen from some stupid arse brothas and sistas. I see a lot of contradicting, from some memebers from Black Men Vent (aka pussy ass bitches as iiamusement2009 puts it). I agree with her when she said black women loose both ways.

Looks like little 13 year old Alfie Pattern who looks like he is 8 is not the father of his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman baby. When this story broke earlier this year it had the whole UK in a uproar about how babies are having babies. The Why?
So I looked at the recent census of America and found out the way how interracial marriages are the highest was between Asian Women and White Men. (So to all you Black men and White women who think that it's all about you stop it! Now as for the why, if you go on blogs like Racialiscious and Addicted to Race which are blogs I subscribe to are very great so check it out. You have some Asian women talking bad to Asian men and only seeking White guys. Also on the flip side you have Black Men talking bad on Black Women and running off with White Women. Also the representation of Asian men being abusive to their wives and misogynistic or of course 'The Duck Dongs' as my boyfriend called them Long Duck Dong from Sixteen Candles geeky, nerdy, bad English, effeminate, ugly un-sexualized and of course the small penis (Those dum stereotype does not apply to my boo). As for black women in the media as the hyper-sexualised image and ghetto video hos, bitchy, loud mouthed attitude having rolling neck divas who can't keep her mouth closed "Oh no you did n't" (That's not me by the way I'm shy). So of course with those media representations we are going to be seen as unattractive and undesired. So you have these two groups of people of colour being rejected by their own you will expand your pool and say "Hi you are cute/sexy want to go on a date with me?"

The Stereotypes and Comments
Now with reason confirmed I was checking out some websites with my BF and we looked at some comments and the stupid comments that were there like.

"I don't think an Asian guy would be able to handle a black woman's attitude." So this person thinks the timid Asian and the aggressive Black stereotype is true of course this is bull I'm the shy timid one when meeting people when I'm in my comfort zone is where I'm a little bit more goofy and my BF is the more outgoing and loud and sometime outspoken so we are different. So all that shit is crap.

"Please chinks candle handle all dat ass, y'all know what I'm sayin'." The whole Asian dudes have small dicks a black guy wrote this he may be on the down low because he is so concern of another guys dick. And he just sound like a damn fool.

Waaaaaaaay too much cultural difference There is going to be cultural differences in any culture whether a Jamaican person and a Ghanaian both black still differences Afro-Brazilian and Sudanese both black still differences (very small differences i think but large similarities). Get it now? Well me and and T. we talk about similarities rather than differences. With me coming from a Nigerian culture and him a Japanese one. Something simple like

greeting someone Japanese people bow when greeting someone is very similar to how Nigerian bow to greet people too and we were like "Ohhhhhh yeeeeaaaaaah." that's one I don't want to go into great details. So when T. met my parents and greeted them in a traditional Nigerian way that I taught him. My parents tried to hold back a smile but couldn't and welcomed him just like that with open arms. Also of course T's parents didn't have a problem with me being Nigerian since their nephew is half black. Just Love It's just love, I mean is it just that hard for someone to believe that two people from different race and ethnicity and are both people of colour can fall in love? Characters from reality TV like New York may have these characteristics. What I hate the most about the "Strong Black Woman" title is that a lot of people think that what I mentioned above. It seems that there is a mold of how black women should be, when listening to a podcast of Addictive to Race and learning about stereotypes of gender and race I really felt it. The Asian women are suspected to be demur, timid and docile and the polar opposite to that would be a black woman who is loud, brash and feisty/bitchy. Now I am am quite shy and awkward and very quiet I've been like that since such a young age my friend who is Japanese joked about how I would be the stereotypical Japanese girl and she is like a stereotypical black girl which which we found so funny and stupid. One black girl from Africa said to me "How come you're so quiet you're black?" that is so stupid does she want me to act like another girl that was part of my circle of friends who is just too loud and rowdy and we often told her to shut the fuck up.

When I think of strong black woman I think of my mother who helps and support my father has overcome adversities and smiled at the end of the day and not afraid to stand up for what's right, someone who exudes true beauty form the inside and I think that applies to all women of colour not just black women but the thing is those characteristics are a Strong Woman but when you hear strong BLACK woman, you hear the points that I listed above.

Slowly I hear this one is going away slowly and I hope that this one gets left in the dust because someone people see it a a positive stereotype but every stereotype is harmful. But with the lovely Michelle Obama displaying what it is to be a strong beautiful black woman this stereotype could be disappearing

It has been a year since BET has first aired in the UK and I am a avid watcher of the boondocks I love it the anime pulled me in then the humor and writing got me hooked and they often mocked BET and I found out that a lot of Black American feel the same they hate it. Now BET is not really a show that is on every time in my house or in a lot of my friends houses either but I would flick on from time to time if there is nothing to watch. (So that picture does apply to me LOL). So from watching a few shows I will tell you what I think as a Black British African when watching BET.

Well , I don't think all of the shows are bad Hip Hop vs America was very interesting and I enjoyed that a lot, so that I think is very good. I liked some of the BET News Speacial that they did about Black Britons in the USA and the lack of models of colour in the fashion idustry that was good.

Comic View -I like stand up comedy so if one of my favorite comedienne is there then I will watch it.

My hate for this is quite bias, I don't like 'The Hills ' because I am confused about whether it is a reality TV show or a actual show the same with Run's House and other stuff Crenshaw heights is another one and all that type of stuff confuses me is it realityy or not is it a scripted tv show based on a reality show I mean what the hell?"

College Hill - This is where it gets bad. The First College hill that was shown here was the one where the kids from the US go to the Virgin Isles. I felt that ht US kids tried to distant themselves from the Island kids and where very insensitive. One of the guys even yelled at the girl and told her to speak English I could understand her I mean sure she has a strong accent so of course, they probably couldn't understand him with his American accent. The US kids seemed to mock and make fun of everything about the Island students so there was a division in the house. I felt this was bad because the US kids are in another country and when you go abroad you are also representing your country so if they have a bad experience with them the island kids may not want to meet any Americans. Also that fight that occurred and the skinny girl hit the green eyed island girl with a shoe and she was bleeding I think both of them should have left it was stupid for her to stay too.

The other season was the Atlanta one, god this one was bad too, so bad. I'll talk about 2 incidents. In one episode one guy was singing one African folk song and he didn't know where it was from or what it meant and they called the Africa girl from Guinea to translate the song because obviously everyone in the Continent of Africa speaks the same language. She explained that Africa has many languages then the other girl was.

Then when there cast went to the UK during black history month went to a black history month celebration and the boy Dru started rapping with dirty lyrics and it's not the fact that the Brits are prude or anything it's just that it's not the fucking time there were some Aunties and Uncles and little children how inappropriate seriously not the time or the place.

We also get 106 and Park, Meet the Faith, Bobby Jones Gospel, Meet the Faith, BET Awards, American Gangstas and I think that is it. To tell you the trhough it is not really watched among my circle of friends unless one of us is suffering from insomnia and nothing else is on.

When you look at some videos on YouTube or read a blog by a person of colour or just a stupid person that you've met at work or school or whatever there always seem to be some of the most stupidest people making the most ignorant comments that make me want to laugh at their idiocy or shake my head in disgust. I'm sure many of us have read or heard some dumb shit regarding race or religion or nationality so here are ten of the most memorable that I have found

In no particular order:

"How can you be Muslim you are black." - A girl in high school said this to me, now she was black and she was African this fool must not get around much or have heard of Muhammed Ali a lot of people in Africa are indeed Muslim I am Nigerian and yes I am black but just because I am black does that automatically make me Christian? You can be whatever religion regardless of your race so she was a dumass for saying that.
"Orientals aren't normal because their eyes aren't like any other race." Now a stupid white guy on Youtube said this I wish I had the link but sadly I don't what kind of fool says that yeah each race a physical attributes that is different to another race but how is that 'not normal' black people have kinky Afro-y hair so what we aren't normal to everyone else those differences that we have make us unique and beautiful and this guy is just a dumb stupid wanker for saying this shit
"I hate Black Britons they forget where they came from and act like they are the shit." Now this guy was a black American person speaking on his views on Black British people and obviously he doesnothave a lot of contact with any apart for the one time he went to London. Now being a Black British African I know how much of this statement is complete and utter bullshit because, the majority of Black Britons are from the Caribbean and Africa and as for 'forgetting where we came from' we know damn well where we came from if we were going round the table and saying "What country are you from?" the answers will be. "I'm from Jamaica" "I'm from Nigeria" "I'm from Ghana" Whether we were born in the UK or not because a lot of us especially Africans are 1st or 2nd generations so we still stick to our culture rather than the British one and the same thing goes for the Afro-Caribbeans who I feel have kept a lot of some subtle African traditions. A lot of us eat our own food from our culture. In my house we eat Nigerian food more that British stuff I truly never heard of 'spotted dick' or 'Black pudding' ever before but we still through in some British cuisines too. So this American guy is full of crap and needs to have more of an experience before he makes a stupid comment.
"Do you speak African?" A boy said this to me in high school he was Indian, obviously Africa is a Continent but I don't think he knew I mean Sarah Palin didn't.
"Islam is a bad religion it condones violence and terrorism all in the name of Allah" Alright, the bombers on 9/11 and 7/7 may have been Arabs that hap pend to be Muslim that went crazy and made all of us look bad. The KKK are a bunch of crazies too and didn't they burn crosses on black people's houses wasn't that in the name of Christ so by your statement miss ignorant that would suggest that all Christians are like that.
"Ever since 9/11 planes and 7/7 I get afraid to go on Planes, Buses and Trains when Arabs are on it." Afraid white guy that I knew said this what a idiot not every Arab is a terrorist just like not every white boy will not massacre their high school. What happened was bad, it was tragic but you can't like your life in fear that's like me saying "Every time I get on a boat with white people I'm afraid that they might turn me into a slave and force me to pick cotton." And don't say it's different because it is not, slavery may have happened waaaaaaaay back and the bombing weren't that long but they are both in the past.
"Indians are not really Asians, not really." A East Asian guy said this now okay I get how in America you have your 'default Asian' which is someone from the far east or southeast Asian/ pacific Islander. Now in the UK the 'default Asian is someone from South Asian decent ie: India and Pakistan etc. When talking to my friend who is half black and half Japanese, I was reading a creative writing homework of his and said "Why did you have the Asian guy doing this?" and he said something like chutney sorry it was time ago and I told him "Negro you are Asian" which we laughed for time at and he said he is not Asian Asian he is Japanese and is oriental which isn't a racial slur in the UK but I guess it is derogatory in the US hell we even have place in London called 'Oriental City' The way I see it if a country is in Asia and you are from that country you are Asian. It similar to how a lot of Africans view Somalians as not being African or black because they are different looking to other black people and they don't see themselves as black (this happens in the UK) But West Africans and East Africans look different to each other the same with North Africans.
"The Middle East is such a violent place look at all the things that they have done America has never done anything like as bad as what the terrorist done."So we are just going to forget about slavery, Hiroshima, the near eradication of Native Americans okay I think we can all be cool with that.
